U.S., Australia, France rally in support of Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia

18:49, 13 June 2018

On June 13, civil activists hold rallies and support actions, demanding to release Oleg Sentsov, Oleksandr Kolchenko and other Ukrainian political prisoners, illegally held in Russia. One of them is to take place in Paris in the evening.

The U.S. and Australian supporters held a one-day-long hunger strike to support Sentsov; the action took place on the eve of the FIFA World Cup 2018, which is to kick off in Russia on Thursday. 1.5 million activists from the Ukrainian community in the U.S. urged the Americans to join them. Australian supporters said they took it to the street due to solidarity with Ukraine.

As is known, Oleg Sentsov, the Ukrainian film director, is now serving time in the Russian penal colony. The Russian judges found him guilty of the alleged preparations for terrorist acts in the occupied Crimea. In May, Sentsov announced a hunger strike, demanding to release all Ukrainian political prisoners, held in Russian jails. He’s been starving for 31 days in a row now.
