UNGA urges member countries to not consider Jerusalem Israeli capital

18:17, 22 December 2017

UN General Assembly calls on UN member countries not to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The respective resolution was passed during the recent session in New York, in spite of Donald Trump’s threats to cut the funding for all those supporting the document. So far, the U.S. remains the only country in the world that officially considers Jerusalem the Israeli capital.

Ukraine was among those who abstained; the Ukrainian diplomats believe that the voting will not contribute to solving the tensions in the Middle East, while the status of Jerusalem should be settled via peaceful negotiations
