Ukrainian parliament sets course to NATO, EU membership

The Ukrainian Parliament upheld the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, which set the strategic course to the membership in the EU and NATO. 334 MPs voted for the respective bill.

Certain provisions will be added to the preamble of the main document.  From now on, the President, the Parliament and the Cabinet will be responsible for the implementation of this course.

Besides, the law now forbids foreign armed units to use Ukrainian military bases in Ukraine. This is the same provision that once created legal grounds for Russia's Black Sea Fleet to set its naval bases in Ukraine.
