Ukrainian national football team presents a new patriotic uniform for EURO 2020

A new kit for Ukraine's football team on Euro-2020, showing a map of their country that includes Crimea – a region annexed by Russia in 2014, has provoked anger in Moscow.

Ukraine plays its first European soccer championship group game against the Netherlands on June 13 and the players will be wearing shirts emblazoned with its borders including Crimea and the slogan "Glory to Ukraine!"

Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine in 2014, and considers it a part of its territory, something rejected internationally. A Russian MP called it a "political provocation".

Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes! salute originates from the different military formations during the Ukrainian War of Independence (from 1917 to 1921) and the greeting of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. It was widely used during the protests in Kyiv in 2013-2014.

Since 2018, it is the official salute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The leaders of the foreign delegation also greet the guard of honor with this salute.
