Ukrainian MPs register draft law on extension of special status of Donbas

The draft law on the extension of the special status of Donbas is submitted in the Ukrainian Parliament. MPs from Servant of the People party David Arakhamia and Oleksandr Korniyenko registered it on late Tuesday.

The document will be eligible for one year, until late 2020. The lawmakers plan to consider it tomorrow, on the extraordinary session. The current document expires this month. It was valid from 2014 until 2017, and the Parliament extended the deadline twice.

The law foresees that the local elections in the occupied Donbas would take place under the Ukrainian law. Those who did not commit any crimes against the Ukrainian civilians or military will be released from the criminal responsibility. The local government reserves the right to create the groups of people's police to maintain public order.
