Ukrainian Aleksa Chopivska was detained during the protest action held near the Russian embassy in Washington.

Chopivska and her mother, both representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora in the U.S., approached the National Cathedral, spreading information leaflets about Russian military aggression in Ukraine. At the time, the Cathedral hosted a so-called ‘concert for unity’, organized by the local Russian community.

Among the participants were Valeriy Gergiev and Denis Matsuyev, the Russian musicians who supported the annexation of Crimea in 2014. The security workers demanded that the Ukrainian activists leave the premises; when Chopivska refused to obey, the police put handcuffs on her and took her to the police precinct. Then, the law enforcers drew up a report on the accident and let her go.
