Ukraine's political prisoner Oleg Sentsov goes for hunger strike

Ukraine's Oleg Sentsov, illegally held in the Russian prison, has announced a hunger strike. Natalya Kaplan, his sister reported this on Wednesday morning.

According to her, this is Oleg's protest against the illegal detention of Ukrainians in Russia and the occupied Crimea; this is how he demands to release them. Sentsov told his lawyer Dmytro Dinze he prepared his body for this step for two months, and now he is ready.

He also wrote the respective appeal, which was later made public. Dinze warned him he could face irrecoverable damage to his health. In turn, Sentsov said he was ready to die if his demands are ignored.
