Ukraine's energy sector temporarily switches to emergency mode

Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers introduced an emergency mode in the energy sector. It will be running for at least a month, until mid-March 2017. The respective document was approved on February 15.

The nation-wide united energy system will be henceforth controlled manually.

The government also banned to export anthracite coal, since the coal stocks owned by thermal power plants are running low fast. Leaders of regional authorities develop timetables of power usage to cut the consumption rate of electricity in peak hours.

It means that rolling blackouts are possible across the entire country.
