Ukraine-Russia-EU talks underway in Brussels

Another round of gas talks between Ukraine, EU and Russia begins on Monday. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and head of the state-run Naftogaz company Andriy Kobolev represent this country in these negotiations.

The sides will discuss supplies of the Russian gas to the EU after the transit contract runs out in 2020. When the document expires, the Russian side plans to cut the supplies via Ukraine as much as possible. Kyiv, on the other hand, aims to preserve the current volumes of gas transit.

Earlier, Stockholm arbitrary court ruled that Russia’s energy monopolist Gazprom failed to live up to its commitments on the gas agreement with Ukraine, so the Russian side has to pay the compensation. Gazprom refuses to pay, seeking to terminate the deal ahead of the schedule.
