Two Ukrainian political prisoners mark birthdays in Russian jail

Volodymyr Balukh and Roman Sushchenko, the Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia, mark their birthdays behind the bars. Members of the European Parliament from several countries held rallies in their support. Representatives of Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Belgium, Slovakia and the UK joined the event.

The native of Crimea Volodymyr Balukh turned 48. He remains in detention, judged for the alleged storage of explosives and ammunition. In fact, Balukh suffered for his pro-Ukrainian stance in the occupiued Crimea.

Roman Sushchenko, the reporter of Ukrinform news agency is sentenced to 12 years in prison for the alleged espionage. The caring citizens can send letters and postcards for the inmates, which they willingly do.
