Two thousand migrants rescued in Mediterranean - Coast Guard of Italy

Nearly two thousand migrants were rescued in the Mediterranean during last 24 hours. This was reported by the Coast Guard of Italy. 16 overcrowded boats were spotted along the coastline. A lot of people are in critical condition due to overheating and dehydration.

There are a lot of children among the rescued.

In total, 14 000 refugees arrived in Italy from Middle East and Africa since the beginning of the week.

According to the Italian Interior Ministry, the country's registration centers span 148 thousand asylum seekers.
