U.S. President Donald Trump claimed he did not know Marie Yovanovitch, the former Ambassador in Ukraine. He added that his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky was not her fan, either.

According to the verbatim of July conversation between Zelensky and Trump, the latter referred to Yovanovitch as "no prize".  Marie Yovanovitch served as the Ambassador in Ukraine since 2016 till May 2019. In May 2019, she returned to the states, as the Washington recalled her after numerous acts of criticism, including that by Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani.

Some media assumed Yovanovitch allegedly gets in the way of investigation against ex-Vice President Joseph Biden and his son Hunter who worked for Burisma, the Ukrainian gas production company.
