Tribute to Holocaust victims: Ukraine’s President Zelensky visits Poland, joins commemorative events

19:12, 27 January 2020

January 27, the international community pays tribute to Victims of the Holocaust. On this particular day, January 27, 1945, Soviet troops released the prisoners of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest concentration camp in Europe.

Currently, the camp is no more, and there's a memorial complex on its premises. Last weekend saw the survivors come to the Polish town of Oswiecim, where the memorial events were held. Most of them came from the US, Australia and Latin America. Relatives of those who didn't make it until now arrived as well. So did President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
