Snowstorms and low temperatures in Ukraine

16:02, 19 April 2017

About 150 towns and villages in six regions of Ukraine are cut off from electricity. The State Emergency Service reported that on Wednesday.

The Carpathian Mountains in western Ukraine are covered with deep snow drifts. Strong snowfalls are expected today in the westernmost Zakarpattya region. Heating season was resumed due to the unusually low temperatures in Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lutsk (all in western Ukraine).

School classes are postponed in Mykolaiv, southern Ukraine. Transport collapse is observed in Dnipro and Kharkiv, southeastern Ukraine. Snow storms made airport administration close the traffic to and from Zaporizhya.

Road traffic is practically crippled in Kharkiv and across the region. School classes are also cancelled there – until Monday.
