Sentsov in Moscow: Ukraine-Russia prisoners exchange possible?

18:57, 29 August 2019

Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov is transferred from Labytnangi penal colony to a detention center in Moscow. Russian news agency Interfax reported that he is about to be exchanged on Kyrylo Vyshynsky, the editor-in-Chief of RIA News agency.

On August 28, the Ukrainian court released Vyshynsky, charged with state treason and other tough crimes. In 2015, the Russian court sentenced Sentsov to 20 years at a high-security penal colony for the alleged 'preparation of a terrorist act' in Crimea. Sentsov denies all allegations.

The negotiations on the exchange are underway, but Russian law enforcers refuse to release Sentsov, as well as other two prisoners, Mykola Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh. Russian presidential press secretary Dmitriy Peskov did not comment on the current status of negotiations.
