See Breeze 2018 drills kick off in Black Sea, Southern Ukraine

Sea Breeze 2018, the U.S.-Ukrainian naval drills began in Odesa, the major port city in southern Ukraine.

According to Radio Liberty, the exercise will be running until July 21, covering the northwestern waters of the Black Sea, as well as seaports, airports and firing ranges in Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson region, all in southern Ukraine.

Rear Admiral of Ukraine's Navy Oleksiy Neyizhpapa and U.S. Navy Captain Matthew Liman are the co-commanding officers in charge of the exercise.

This year's Sea Breeze involves 30 vessels from naval forces of 19 countries, including a Turkish submarine. An important feature of the exercise is that the multinational staff will be coordinating the actions of naval, air and ground forces from USS Mount Whitney, the flagship of the 6th U.S. Navy Fleet.
