Second anniversary of Volnovakha tragedy

18:30, 13 January 2017

The Volnovakha tragedy occurred this day two years ago.

On January 13, 2015, Russian-backed militants fired on the regular bus with civilians aboard. The people were about to pass the checkpoint in Donetsk region when they came under the artillery fire from the occupied territories. Militants fired 40 missiles on the checkpoint controlled by Ukrainian forces. 13 people died, 18 were wounded.

This day became the start of the so-called winter military campaign of 2015.The fighting for Donetsk airport began a week after that blood incident, and the fierce attacks near large transport hub Debaltseve kicked off in a month.
