Savchenko case in Ukraine: detention period extended until July 13

The court hearing in the case of Nadiya Savchenko took place in Kyiv on Tuesday. The MP, former Air Force pilot and ex-political prisoner in Russia, she is charged with preparing terrorist acts in Ukraine.

The prosecutors asked the court extend her detention period for another two months. The motion was granted, thus the new detention term will expire in July.

Savchenko already refused service of both of her lawyers, saying she cannot pay them. The state, however, appointed another lawyer. The defendant denies all charges. If the jury considers her guilty, Savchenko may face the life imprisonment.
