Five Crimean Tatars heard the sentences in their case in Russia. Teimur Abdulayev, Rustem Ismailov, Uzeir Abdulayev, Emil Dzhemadenov and Ayder Saledinov were detained as the alleged members of Hizb-Ut Tahrir movement, the Islamist radical organization that is banned in Russia.

The men were detained in 2016. The Russian authorities charged them with membership in the terrorist organization. Ukrainian Foreign Ministry condemned the decision of the Russian court, asking the international community to do the same and to apply pressure on Russia, so that it would release the prisoners.
