18:15, 17 July 2019

Lefortovo district court in Moscow extended the detention term for the Ukrainian sailors detained in the Kerch Strait in November 2018. The seamen will remain behind the bars until October 24, lawyer Nikolai Polozov reported. The appeal to prolong the detention was filed by the detective from the investigation department of Russia's FSB.

Russian Navy attacked the Ukrainian vessels near the occupied Crimea in November 2018. The three ships and their crews were arrested. The sailors were charged with the illegal crossing of "Russian territorial waters".

In turn, Kyiv sued Russia in the UN International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. The authority ruled that the sailors should be released immediately. Russia has been ignoring the decision.
