Russia breaches international law during Kerch Strait incident, - U.S. Envoy in UN

There’s no justification of Russia’s actions in Kerch Strait, since Crimea is a part of Ukraine’s territory, and there’s no Russian territorial waters around it. Jonathan Cohen, the U.S. Deputy Envoy in the UN said this, blaming the Kremlin for the recent aggressive action in the Sea of Azov.

According to Cohen, Russia breached the international law by blocking the strait. The diplomat urged the Kremlin to release the captured Ukrainian sailors and ships immediately.

As is known, three Ukrainian ships were on their way from Odesa to Mariupol to join the newly created Ukrainian naval base in the Sea of Azov. Russian naval vessels and aviation opened fire and wounded three Ukrainian servicemen.

Currently, 24 Ukrainian sailors face charges with ‘illegal border crossing’, as they stay in detention centers in Moscow. Soon after this act of the Russian aggression, the martial law was imposed in ten regions of Ukraine.
