President Poroshenko testified in the case of high treason committed by his predecessor Viktor Yanukovych. On Wednesday, he appeared at the court hearing in Kyiv in the video conference mode.

The head of the Ukrainian state also reported that he personally saw Russian regular troops taking over Crimea’s parliament, when he came to inspect the situation there in late February 2014. According to Poroshenko, Russian cargo planes landed on airfields across Crimea, carrying reinforcements for the troops already deployed there at the time.

The Ukrainian president, who at the time was an MP of the Ukrainian Parliament, added that supporters of Russian rule in Crimea tried to attack him; he was rescued by a group of pro-Ukrainian activists near the building of the Crimean Parliament.
