Orthodox, Greek Catholics celebrate Annunciation of our lady

Eastern Orthodox celebrate Annunciation Day today. It is the third biggest Christian holiday after Easter and Christmas.

The holiday the celebration of the announcement by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother of Jesus, the Son of God. It is believed that a church was built on the place where mother of God heard the announcement in Nazareth, Israel.

The date is an approximation of nine full months before Christmas, the ceremonial birthday of Jesus. People consecrate prosphorons, Ukrainian farmers let their cattle out of the sheds to feel the spring.

According to the folk wisdom, the weather on Easter Day would be the same as on the Annunciation Day.
