New wave of US sanctions against Russia takes effect

16:20, 29 November 2017

The new wave of sector sanctions against Russia took effect on November 29. This is supposed to be Washington’s response to the Kremlin’s interference with 2016 presidential election in the U.S., and Moscow’s aggression in Ukraine and Syria.

The restriction measures concern those involved in human rights violations, supplying firearms and hacker attacks. Russian businesses in energy and metallurgy sectors will suffer, too. From now on, the sanctions are due to be fulfilled, and even president Trump has no right to soften or cancel them without the Congress’s approval.
