Eastern Europe’s NATO member countries hosted four multi-national battalions of the Alliance. Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General said that during the meeting of allied forces in Latvia.

About 4,000 servicemen are stationed in Poland and the Baltic States. Germany commands the battalion in Lithuania, the U.S. manages troops in Poland, the Great Britain leads units based in Estonia, while Canada supervises activity of troops in Latvia.

The NATO leaders agreed on that at last year’s summit in Warsaw. According to Stoltenberg, the Alliance is not going to reinforce the battalions for the time being; however, NATO can quickly build up forces in Eastern Europe, whenever necessary.
