NATO naval drills kick off in Black Sea

10 days-long military drills began in the Black Sea waters. The NATO-backed exercise Sea Shield involves fleets of eight countries – Romania (as the host of the event), Bulgaria, Canada, Greece, Spain, the USA, Turkey and Ukraine.

According to Romanian Navy, almost 3,000 servicemen, 16 ships, a submarine, ten aircraft and a rescue chopper will participate in the drills.

The exercise is supposed to practice certain combat skills such as countering attacks from the air, from the ground and from under the water.
