National Bank of Ukraine to replace minimum denomination banknotes with coins

New coins instead of old banknotes. Starting from April 27, the National Bank of Ukraine stops issuing the banknotes at the nominal value of 1 and 2 hryvnas.

They will be replaced by coins, featuring the same images as the ones on the banknotes – Prince Volodymyr the Great and Prince Yaroslav the Wise, the ancient Ukrainian leaders. The old banknotes will remain in the national money turnover, though.

By 2020, the National Bank also plans to start issuing new coins at the nominal value of 5 and 10 Ukrainian hryvnas.
