Four children were killed in an air strike on a marketplace and a school in a rebel-held part of the Syrian city of Aleppo on Wednesday, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The bombardment has killed more than 145 people since the truce collapsed, according to the head of a voluntary rescue service. Russian jets resumed their airstrikes of Aleppo after the President of Russia had cancelled his visit to France for the talks with his French counterpart.

EU countries are to discuss the new sanctions against Russia the next week. Meanwhile the US and Russia agreed on the next negotiations on Syria, scheduled for October 15 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
