The annual report of Human Rights Watch (HRW) states that the Ukrainian authorities have not been keen on investigating the attacks on journalists, limiting the media freedom in this country. The document is available on the HRW website.

The Ukrainian government insists that the country is at information war with Russia, which is why there is a need of certain restriction of media freedom.

In October 2018, the Ukrainian parliament recommended the National Security Council to impose sanctions against 112 Ukraine and NewsOne TV channels, specifically, canceling media licenses and banning the use of radio frequencies. The European Parliament urges Kyiv to stop such actions as it may be considered as pressure against the media freedom.
