Large-scale fire occurred in Kalynivka village, central Ukraine

Huge fire at one of Ukraine’s largest ammunition depots in Kalynivka village (Vinnytsia region, central Ukraine) has set off a series of explosions. The fire started at about 10 p m. on Tuesday, September 26. The airspace within a radius of 50 km from the fire zone has already been closed. As the intensity of the blasts dropped down by the morning on Wednesday, the de-miners started minesweeping clearing operation.

Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers allocated 3,8 million dollars to eliminate fire in Kalynivka. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko decided to convene a military cabinet involving Ukraine’s Prime Minister, National Defense Secretary, Defense Minister, Chief of the General Staff, head of the Security Service and heads of law enforcement bodies.
According to open data, 188,000 tons of ammunition is stored in the arsenal on the area of about 60 hectares. Smerch, Hurricane and Grad missiles are stored in the arsenal.
