Jewish New Year celebrations comes round calmly in Ukrainian city of Uman

Rosh Hashanah, Jewish New Year celebrations come round calmly in the city of Uman, central Ukraine. Lesya Usenko, the speaker of the local police, told that to 112 Ukraine TV channel.

According to her, the majority of pilgrims spent their time in prayers. This year almost 30 thousands pilgrims came to Uman, which is the record number for Ukraine.

This time Rosh Hashanah is celebrated on Sunday after sunset and on Monday, on October 2 and 3 respectively.

Jewish Hasidism movement followers gather in Uman every year as rabbi Nahman, spiritual mentor, is buried on the city Jewish cemetery. The pilgrims believe that welcoming Rosh Hashana on Nahman’s grave brings happiness for the whole year.

According to police, security measures were strengthened since yesterday – 1500 policemen are guarding order in Uman now.
