International Criminal Court shall remain an important institution in spite of any Moscow decision. This was announced by the representative of the United States Department of State John Kirby, commenting on the Russia’s withdrawal from the International Criminal Court.

Russia’s refusal to ratify the Rome statute – the main document of the ICC – came the day before. Russian President Vladimir Putin  signed the corresponding decree.

Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained their decision with the one-sidedness and inefficiency of the Hague Tribunal, which equated Crimea annexation to war the day before. This means that the Hague Tribunal shall not be able to judge the Federation for the crimes, committed by it’s citizens.
