Fourth anniversary of MH17 tragedy

21:15, 17 July 2018

It has been exactly four years since the horrible tragedy of flight MH17. On July 17, 2014, Boeing 777 of Malaysian Airlines was shot down by an anti-aircraft missile in the sky over Donetsk region. The aircraft was on its way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. There were 298 people aboard; none of them survived.

The tragedy evoked huge public outcry in Ukraine and elsewhere, with the international investigation team looking into the case and blaming Russia-backed militants for the missile launch. The investigation team, led by the Dutch officials, came to conclusions that the plane was downed with the missile fired from Buk, Russian-made missile launcher.

It appeared that the weapon, which originally belonged to Russian Army’s 53rd Regiment of Anti-Aircraft Defense, was moved to the militant-held territory of Donetsk region from Russia

The Russian defense ministry denied any involvement in the case; nevertheless, the Netherlands and Australia officially charged the Kremlin.
