The workers of National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) detained Hennady Trukhanov, the Mayor of Odesa on February 14. According to the State Border Guard, the official is suspected of embezzling the city council’s funds.

'Today the border guards fulfilled the order of the law enforcement body towards this person, informed the initiator and then the prosecutors of the NABU arrived who served the charges on him', Slobodyan noted.

Trukhanov arrived from Warsaw (Poland) to Boryspil Airport on Wednesday. He was detained and taken to the NABU office for further questioning.

The NABU detectives served charges, suspecting Trukhanov of embezzlement through the malpractice. Another three people were detained on the same criminal proceeding.

The NABU began the investigation in November 2016. According to the bureau, the building was sold for $150,000 in early 2016 and the Mayor office of Odesa purchased it later that year for $ 7 million.

Trukhanov was questioned as the witness in this case in October 2017. In January 2018, he was charged with an attempt of bribe-giving as he tried to persuade the NABU detective to lift the arrest off his assets.
