Ex-Odesa governor Mikheil Saakashvili detained – and released

Former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili was detained by the state security service in Kyiv, Ukraine.

The official who also used to serve as governor of Odesa region faced charges with aiding and abetting a criminal gang; the respective article of the Criminal Code stipulates three to five years in prison.

Saakashvili was taken in on the roof of his house threatening to jump down. Later, his supporters blocked the transport and released him by force. Kyiv Prosecutor’s office opened a criminal case.
