Families of the victims of flight MH17 won the case against Igor Girkin, the ex-leader of pro-Russian militants in Donbas.

According to the court verdict, Girkin will have to pay them USD 400 million of compensation. However, for now, the families of 25 victims who sued Girkin will not get the money in the near future; he did not appear for trial and he’s not at his residence in Moscow, so his whereabouts remain unknown. The complainants say they do not care much about the money, but stand for justice.

The flight MH17, the Boeing 777 that belonged to Malaysian Airlines was on its way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, when Russia-backed mercenaries shot it down, using the anti-air missile. The tragedy occurred in the skies over Donetsk region in July 2014. There were 298 people aboard. No one survived.
