Mikheil Saakashvili, the former Georgian president and ex-governor of Odesa region, walks free after a short-lived detention in Kyiv. Pechersk district court denied the petition of prosecutors who asked to extend the house arrest.

As is known, the politician was taken in Kyiv on December 5, then released by his supporters who used force to get him out of the police vehicle.  Then, he was again detained on December 8.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine charged Saakashvili with assisting a criminal group; the authority says that his action was funded by businessman Serhiy Kurchenko, famous for his ties with the family of ex-president Viktor Yanukovych.
