European Parliament demands to release Sentsov, other Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia

The European Parliament voted for the resolution on the release of Oleg Sentsov and other Ukrainian political prisoners.

455 MPs supported the resolution, 106 voted against it.

The document of the parliament ‘expresses the solidarity with the Ukrainian filmmaker, political activist and political prisoner Oleg Sentsov’ who went on the hunger strike on May 14, 2018, demanding the release of the illegally detained compatriots and concern about the consequences of the hunger strike for the inmate’s health.

The MPs emphasize that the evidence upon which Sentsov was convicted were received due to application of tortures.

The conviction of another political prisoner Oleksandr Kolchenko also raised the concern of the EU Parliament. Volodymyr Balukh who went on the hunger strike on March 19 was also mentioned.
