EU urges Russia to release two political prisoners from Ukraine

The EU asks Russia to provide medical assistance to the critically ill Ukrainian political prisoners Edem Bekirov and Pavlo Gryb. This is mentioned in the statement by Maja Kocijancic, the Head of the European External Action Service.

Edem Bekirov is a Crimean Tatar who was illegally captured in Crimea in late 2018. He suffers from a heart disease and needs due treatment. Pavlo Gryb, the son of the officer of Ukraine's Border Guard Service suffers from several tough diseases and he needs an urgent heart surgery. His father says the boy could die without it.

The EU expects that Russia lets Ukrainian doctors examine Pavlo while he is in custody.  The Federal Security Service captured Gryb in Belarus two years ago; he is charged with the alleged preparation of a terrorist attack in Russia.
