Defence team appeals against verdict in case of Crimea Tatar official Umerov

23:52, 28 September 2017

Lawyers of Ilmi Umerov, deputy leader of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people, appeal against the verdict in his case. The EU and PACE urged Russia to release the official who was previously sentenced to two years by the so-called court of the occupied Crimea – under charges of mass disturbances and separatism.

Crimean Tatars secretly recorded the court over Umerov, showing faces of prosecutors and judges who judged him. They also filmed Umerov’s last speech before the sentence was announced.
