Comedian Volodymyr Zelensky wins first round of presidential election in Ukraine

As the first round of presidential election in Ukraine is behind, comedian Volodymyr Zelensky leads the way with more than 30 percent of votes in his pocket. The Central Election Committee counts the ballots; as of 4 p.m. Monday, more than 80 percent of all votes are counted.

Second place went to the incumbent Petro Poroshenko who scored about 16 percent of votes. Yulia Tymoshenko, the ex-premier lags behind with approximately 13.5 points.

Fifteen of the officially registered 26 million voters managed to make their choice on the voting day on March 31. The second round is scheduled for April 21.
