Several arrests took place in Iran in the case of the downing of Ukrainian civilian aircraft on January 8. The detainees may be behind the shooting that resulted in 176 fatalities, Reuters reported with the reference to a representative of the local judicial authority. It remains unknown how many people were arrested. Boeing 737 of Ukraine's International Airlines crashed not far from Tehran on early January 8.

None of 167 passengers and nine crew members survived the tragedy. Initially, Iran claimed it was not involved in the disaster; but later, the government recognized that the plane was shot down by an anti-aircraft missile.
