Amendments to Constitution in the part of judicial system came into their force today in Ukraine.

Judges will be appointed not by the Parliament, but the newly created Supreme Justice Council from now on.

The panel of judges of the Supreme Court id also to be renewed: 65 new representatives will be selected out of 200 candidates by the end of March 2017.

The changes will also restrain judge’s immunity. They may now be detained for grave offences. They also may now be fired for disciplinary infractions or for reckless neglect of their duties, or in case they are not able to explain the origin of the assets and income of their own or these of their families.
