There are 117 political prisoners illegally held in Russian facilities now, according to human rights activists from Memorial Centre. Most of them are the Muslims, charged with membership in Hizb-Ut Tahrir, the pan-Islamist movement, which is considered a terrorist organization in Russia.

Some of the political prisoners are Ukrainians, such as Oleg Sentsov, Oleksandr Kolchenko, Stanislav Klykh and many others. Last year, the list of political prisoners in Russia was shorter, including 102 names.
