Zelensky's Servant of People party pledges 'radical changes'

The party of newly elected President Volodymyr Zelensky Servant of the People has pledged to fight corruption and increase the defence expenditures. The party is doing well, according to the polls, as Deutsche Welle reported.

“The party is centered around comedian-turned-president Volodymyr Zelensky and named after the TV series he has starred in since 2015. The show tells the story of a history teacher who becomes president after his anti-corruption rant goes viral,” the news agency reports.

Servant of the People party was created in 2018, it has no lawmakers in the parliament so far.

“The snap election on July 21, called by Zelensky shortly after he was sworn in late last month, would allow him to secure a parliamentary majority for his reforms,” the message reads.

"Ukraine needs radical changes. But the old political system, the system of corruption, lies and despotism, does not want to change,” the document says.

"We will implement the course of President Zelensky with concrete legislation and political decisions," the members of the party add.

Servant of the People promised to raise Ukraine’s military spending from 3,4% in 2017 to 5%, “as well as reform its armed forces based on NATO standards”. Members of the party pledge to push  the legislation, which will move Ukraine closer to the EU and expand cooperation with NATO.
