President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called on the countries of the European Union to apply a proactive sanctions policy against Russia before the onset of a possible escalation in Donbas as he stated during the briefing.
“Some leaders are proposing a format for responding to a likely escalation after an escalation from Russia. And apply a powerful sanctions policy. We were able to explain to our European colleagues that, frankly speaking, nobody is interested in the "after" sanctions policy. We are in favor of a powerful sanctions policy before escalation, and then there may be no probable escalation. Such a relationship, preempting dangerous steps, will be able to stop the conflict in the east of our country, which has been going on for eight years,” Zelensky said.
Besides, the Ukrainian leader stated that Ukraine is ready for any format of negotiations with Russia, but the same desire to stop the war in Donbas from the Russian side is needed.
