Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv was ready to step up the preparation for membership in NATO and also ready for Membership Action Plan (MAP). President Zelensky said this at the briefing with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“We are ready to work close with the Alliance and accelerate preparation for NATO membership, without taking the possibility of Ukraine’s joining the Membership Action Plan off the table. We are ready today to prove practically that Ukraine deserves such format of relations with the Alliance,” Zelensky said.
President Zelensky noted that during the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission, the sides have agreed on the renewed consolidated projects package.
As it was reported earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reaffirmed NATO member states' readiness to accept Ukraine into their community under a number of conditions, and Russia has no voting right in this matter.
According to him, joint training of Ukrainian military and Alliance soldiers, NATO’s support of the Odesa Naval Academy and reforms bring Ukraine closer to membership in the North Atlantic bloc.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg held a speech in Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine as part of the North Atlantic Council's visit to Ukraine, which takes place on October 30-31.
