The transcript of the talk between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky raised extreme outrage among German mass media. Particularly, the passage concerning Germany as Süddeutsche Zeitung reported.

“However, in the transcript published by the White House, there is the second passage, which is especially outrageous for Berlin. We talk about the passage concerning Angela Merkel. It is possible to say that the friendly talk between Trump and Zelensky is the political hit to Germany and its political leadership,” the newspaper wrote.

The journalists put emphasis on a few statements of Donald Trump. According to the transcript, he not just commended his Ukrainian colleague on July 25 but also stated that Germany “does almost nothing” for Ukraine.

Trump said that during their talks she “talks Ukraine but she doesn’t do anything; however, the U.S. “has been very very good” Ukraine.  Zelesnky agreed on it: “Yes you are absolutely right. Not only 100% but actually 1000%”.

“It hardly will cause jubilation of Berlin. Contrary. Because it is unlikely that the foreign policy crisis of any country caused a greater influence on the foreign policy of Germany since 2013 than the crisis in eastern Ukraine…As the crisis has entered the open phase, the chancellor and then Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier took care to prevent the threatening escalation,” the message said.

The journalists also mentioned the significant sums of the aid allocated by the German government to Ukraine as well as the participation of German politicians in the talks on the settlement of Donbas Conflict.

According to Süddeutsche Zeitung, the mentioned words will add points to Ukrainian president neither in Berlin nor in Paris.

“Of course, it is possible to doubt that Europeans did enough for Ukraine; it is possible to argue whether it was always right. Besides, it is possible to criticize their sometimes ambiguous behavior toward Moscow, the German support of the construction of Nord Stream 2 is the striking example of it,” the message said.

Süddeutsche Zeitung drew attention to the obvious fact: without EU unity in Russia’s issue mostly formed by Berlin and without political and economic support provided by Europe to Ukraine amid Russian aggression, Ukraine would live a lot worse.

Earlier Donald Trump approved the publication of the full version of his phone talk with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky dated July 25 on September 25. Besides, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo received permission from Ukraine Government to release the transcript of the telephone call.
