President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has announced the successful start of the Crimean Platform summit, noting that at the summit a powerful international coalition was created to liberate the Ukrainian Crimea from Russian occupation.
"Today is without exaggeration historical for Ukraine. Despite all the difficulties and challenges, the Crimean Platform, I think, has been launched very successfully. Its ultimate goal is to de-occupy the sovereign Ukrainian territory, the Crimean peninsula. This initiative has finally returned Crimea to the international agenda - the question, for more than seven years, in such a practical plane has not been discussed at all," Zelensky said.
The President of Ukraine also noted that a powerful international coalition was created at the summit to liberate the Ukrainian Crimea from the occupation of the Russian Federation. This is proof that Ukraine has the strong support of the international community.
The inaugural summit of the platform takes place on 23 August 2021, on the eve of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence.
Crimean Platform is a diplomatic initiative of Ukraine. It is designed to be an international coordination mechanism to restore Russia–Ukraine relations by means of reversing the 2014 annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation. The protection of the human rights of Crimean Tatars, environmental degradation, and the stifling of trade in the Black and Azov Sea region are also matters discussed at the summit.
