President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has participated in the ceremony of the raising of the Ukrainian flag in the geographical center of the country, Maryanivka village, Cherkasy region as the President’s Office reported on Facebook.
“Dignity is when our flag released dozens of cities and villages in Donbas; gratitude is when our flag helped to extinguish fires in Turkey and Greece; belief in life is when our flag helped to fight against Covid-19 in Italy; tears are when our flag accompanies the heaven of the defenders of Ukraine; joy is when our flag waves at the Olympic Games, Mount Everest, Mont Blanc and even in space,” the president concluded.
The festivities took place in the territory of the art object Heart of Ukraine opened on the eve of the holiday. The composition consists of 25 wings that symbolize 24 regions and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The size of the flag is 13x9 meters; the height of the flagstaff is 52 meters.
The blue and yellow flag was also raised in each region: in Lviv, Ruslana Lyzhychko participated in the raising of the flag.
In Mykolaiv, the state flag was raised at the 72-meter flagstaff.
As we reported, annually on August 23, the day before the celebration of Independence Day, Ukraine celebrates National Flag Day. The holiday of the State Flag Day of Ukraine was established in 2004 by decree of the second President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma. In 2009, President Viktor Yushchenko amended Kuchma’s decree by starting the annual official flag-raising ceremony on August 23 all over Ukraine.
